Department

Since its founding in 1527, Philipps-Universität Marburg has offered a classical degree program in law with a strong international orientation at one of the oldest universities in Germany. As a part of this tradition and ever mindful of current developments, the School of Law remains one of the largest departments at Philipps-Universität Marburg. In addition to essential lecture courses in civil law, criminal law and public law, the School offers a broad program of specializations as well as comprehensive preparation for the state examinations. In addition, we host the monitoring project at the Research and Documentation Center for War Crimes Trials, various moot courts and a law clinic.

A special feature of the School is the strong range of additional qualifications relevant to legal practice that students can earn during their courses of study: The program covers private building law, social law, pharmaceutical law and—as an interdisciplinary program—business and law.

Since 2014, the School of Law has offered continuing education courses in building law and consulting as well as pharmaceutical law. Part-time coursework leads to the academic degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) and is oriented not only at lawyers.
