Placement Test and Registration

  • Placement test

    Anyone wishing to attend an intensive language course at the Studienkolleg Mittelhessen has to take a placement test first. We use the test to determine the current level of your proficiency in the German language. The goal is to get you started in the language course that is appropriate to your real proficiency level. Language certificates that you may have already earned from other institutions are not relevant for a placement in our course system.

    The placement test consists of:
    - multiple choice (35 minutes)
    - a text composition (20 minutes)

    There is no oral test.

    Please note that the only purpose that the result of the placement test serves is to place you at the right level within our course system. No results will be issued in certificate form to be presented at other institutions.

    In order to be able to take the placement test, you need to register online.

    We charge a fee of €15.00 for the placement test, which is to be paid via bank transfer.

    This certificate can be obtained FREE OF CHARGE. The processing can take up to one week.

    You can join the placement test online or face-to-face. Please register for ONLY ONE of the options.

    The placement test costs €15.00.

    The results of the placement test on January 28, 2025 are valid only for the following language course cycle from February 24, 2026 to April 14, 2026 for the basic level II as well as for levels 1 to 4. If you would like to attend a later course, you will have to repeat the placement test and register online again.

    You will receive the result of your placement test from January 28, 2026  latest on February 06, 2026 via e-mail.
    We will send you the registration link for the course latest on February 18, 2025.

    Online registration for each placement test is usually possible about four weeks before the test date.

  • Registration for the intensive language courses

    Deadline for the participants of our placement test on January 28, 2026: 
    The REGISTRATION for the language course will take place ONLINE on February 19, 2026.

    Registration procedure

    Latest on February 06, 2026 you will receive a registration link. You can only register for the course level we have determined for you based on your placement test result. We CANNOT guarantee you a place. The classes will be face-to-face.

    The course fee of €630.00 for elementary level II and levels 1 to 4 (per level) has to be paid via bank transfer on the same day if your registration has been completed successfully. You have to send the payment receipt to

    Please note: You have to enroll at the Philipps University of Marburg in order to obtain a student ID card and semester transit pass! If you attend the language courses without enrolling, you will not receive any passes for buses or trains.

    Our goal is to grant admission to all students interested in attending courses at our institute. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will receive a place in the course since the number of places is limited.
