The Sociology minor provides fundamental insights into the subject of sociology and an overview of current areas of sociological practice. After completing the minor course, students will be able to adopt and compare basic theoretical perspectives on questions and problems relating to social differentiation. You will master the necessary scientific working methods to access introductory and basic sociological texts independently or under guidance. In addition, you will be encouraged to reflect on the intersections of your major subject with the Sociology minor and to adopt interdisciplinary perspectives of both disciplines.
An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire valuable, future-oriented skills.
Prospects
Depending on personal interests, combination of subjects and practical experience, the major will qualify you for a variety of occupational fields, such as
- Empirical social, market and opinion research,
- Human resource planning as well as human resource and organisational development,
- Media and public relations and journalism,
- Planning and consulting in the public and private sectors,
- Working in associations representing political, social and cultural interests,
- Development policy and cooperation,
- Support for scientific research and teaching
A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
