Registering for English Courses
Follow-up registrations (i.e. without prior placement test) are only possible for direct transitions from one course phase to the next, i.e. from the summer semester 2024 to the winter semester 2024/25, and only after consulting the coordinator, Dr. Fabienne Quennet. If more time has passed since the previous course (pre-sessional or in-sessional), follow-up registration is not possible, and you will need to take the placement test before registering.
Winter Semester 2024/25
Registrations for English courses take place online from Tuesday, 1 October 2024, 10:00 a.m. via the course program.
Intensive Courses Spring 2025
Registrations for English courses take place online from Monday, 2 December 2024 via the course program.
Requirements
- Online registration is only available for members of the university (non-university members, please see the information below).
- A valid placement test result is necessary to register for any courses except beginners’ courses.
- Students at Philipps-Universität need a valid matriculation number.
- Course fees are paid by direct debit, for which a European bank account is necessary. Cash payment is not accepted. If you do not have a suitable bank account, you may use a third-party account (e.g. a friend’s) for payment.
How to register online
- Choose a course that corresponds with your placement test result. (The required placement score for each class can be found in each course description on the course program page)
- Click on the green button "KURS BUCHEN" and enter your information. If the button is still gray, please refresh the page (by clicking the icon in your browser or pressing F5). If the button is red, the course is already fully booked. In this case, you can add your email-address to a waiting list. Please use your student- or staff-email account for this.
- After registering successfully, a confirmation of registration will be shown on screen and sent to the email address you provided. Emails are also sent out automatically to people on waiting lists as places become available.
- If a SEPA direct debit mandate is shown in the registration process, please sign the mandate and send it by regular mail to Sprachenzentrum der Philipps-Universität Marburg, Biegenstraße 12, 35037 Marburg OR by email to sz@staff.uni-marburg.de OR hand it in personally to the Service Center. You will also find the SEPA mandate linked in the confirmation email which you receive directly after your registration.
Prioritization during registration
- Regular students of Philipps-Universität Marburg (priority 1) can directly sign up for a course online through the online course program.
- Guest students and senior students of Philipps-Universität Marburg (priority 2) as well as employees of Philipps-Universität Marburg and students of Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen (priority 3) can register for a course online “with reservations” through the online course program. The final decision as to who is granted a place will be made after the registration process has ended.
Information for non-university members
- If you are neither a student nor a staff member at Philipps-Universität Marburg, registration is possible only at a later point and only if places are not fully booked by members of the university.
- Registration for non-UMR members is done by way of a registration form.
- Please check your test result and ask for available places on Thursday 17 October 2024 by phone or via email.
- Submit the completed registration form at the latest by Friday, 18 October 2024, 10:00 a.m. Please submit the form by email (sz@staff.uni-marburg.de). If there are places left, you will receive the confirmation of your registration by email. Since members of the university have priority, the confirmation may reach you at relatively short notice.
Important: Registrations for the course are binding and governed by the Language Center’s terms and conditions, in particular the withdrawal terms stated therein (para. 7-9). For the regulations on obtaining ECTS points, please see General Course Information.
