The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is the intense connection of two academic disciplines that pride themselves on their strength in research. Mathematics has been taught in Marburg since 1527 and is thereby one of the most venerable fields of study at the Philipps-Universität. Computer science demonstrates an openness for that which is new. The department has a total of approximately 2,000 students.
