The minor offers an introduction to the issues and principles of peace and conflict studies. This degree programme is practical throughout. The Marburg approach is characterised by interactive learning methods (simulation games, conflict intervention simulations, stimulating forms of teaching and learning) as well as an international and interdisciplinary focus (two English-language modules).
With the new minor subject, we are building on a long history of critical and interdisciplinary peace and conflict research at Marburg. In 1996, the first German degree programme on peace and conflict studies was introduced in Marburg, first as a Diploma and later as a Master's minor. Due to strong demand from students, we now offer a new, interdisciplinary B.A. minor in addition to two Master's programmes
An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire valuable, future-oriented skills.
Prospects
The degree programme qualifies students for careers in political consultancy, journalism, development cooperation, governmental/non-governmental organisations, science & research and political education. It provides the theoretical tools and the necessary skills to work in intercultural, transnational contexts. The strong focus on practical application will prepare you for a wide range of specific professions.
A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
