Zahnmedizin / Dentistry (State Examination)

Program: Zahnmedizin / Dentistry
Degree: State Examination
Program length: 11 semesters / 5.5 years (including Exam Semester)
Start: Winter and Summer semesters

The Dentistry program is divided into a pre-clinical section with practical and theoretical courses and a clinical section with a significantly practical orientation.

In the pre-clinical section of the program, students first complete theoretical courses and activities, followed by practical ones later. These include courses in Medical Terminology, Physics, Chemistry and Dental Propaedeutics, as well as Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology. A variety of examinations are completed, such as the Scientific Preliminary Examination after two semesters or the Dental Preliminary Examination after the fifth semester.

The clinical section of the program includes training on the patient. Students attend most of the courses at the Medical Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and apply the skills they learn on models during pre-clinical training to patients. They treat patients and are incorporated into the daily routine of the clinic, which requires a great deal of discipline and responsible behavior. Theoretical courses in subjects such as Pathology, Radiology, Dermatology or Orthodontics are also attended. Examinations in the clinical subjects are normally both practical as well as written.

The five-semester clinical section is followed by an exam semester in which the acquired skills are tested, practically and orally, in a total of 16 subjects.
