15.01.2025 The CRC "Dynamics of Security" warmly welcomes Visiting Fellow Yazid Benhadda!
Yazid Benhadda is a doctoral candidate and Postgraduate Teaching Associate in the Politics Department at the University of Exeter. His research interests revolve around bridging security studies and colonial history, by looking closely at security practices. His research aims at understanding the coloniality of security practices through drawing up colonial genealogies of said practices. Adopting an empirical approach to understanding colonial legacies, his research aims to bring more archival research to the field of security studies. In his doctoral thesis, he uses this colonial genealogical approach to the case of the EU's security practices towards North African immigration and political Islam. During his time at the Collaborative Research Center, he will continue exploring the coloniality of contemporary migration governance through this same colonial genealogical approach and will work in close cooperation with the subproject “Security and Empire” under the lead of Prof. Benedikt Stuchtey. Yazid Benhadda will stay at the CRC from January to July 2025.
