Qualifications

  • Which hard skills do you acquire?

    Students that take B.A. LDP as their major will be intensively trained in linguistics, especially in Applied Empirical Linguistics. The course of study particularly focusses on the interaction of language use and power and social structures and especially enables students to analyse, describe and reflect on the role of language regarding social and mediated negotiation processes, as well as its role in the emergence, prevalence and changing of power structures. Moreover, graduates will have a very high oral and written proficiency in English. By working with concepts and methods of modern Applied Empirical Lingustics, graduates will be skilled in critical thinking.

  • Which soft skills do you acquire?

    ᛫ Researching and writing complex scientific texts

    ᛫ Critically evaluating scientific texts, theories, and concepts

    ᛫ Techniques of oral and written mediation on the background of intercultural communication

    ᛫ Conducting complex research projects and solving accompanying challenges and problems

    ᛫ Presenting a research question, data, methodology, and results of a research project to academic and non-academic audiences

    ᛫ Organizing and running an academic conference

    ᛫ Researching, presenting, reflecting, and presenting knowledge on a high scientific level

These hard and soft skills will prepare you for a vast array of professions that you should explore during your studies, for example, by doing internships. When you know what you're skilled in, what you're interested in and what requirements certain professions have, you can successfully begin your career.

Possible professions

Being part of a combined bachelor's degree, this study program prepares you for a number of professions. Future careers might include public relations, communications and consulting, but also the areas of university, human resources, publishing, media and media production, tourism, librarianship and documentation, science management, project management, content marketing, as well as language teaching in economic and industrial contexts, advertising, politics, commerce, and transportation.

Orientation

Studying the B.A. Language, Discourse and Power grants you access for many career opportunities. Still, after three years of studies, you will not have a fixed job title, which is why it is worth exploring possible professions and collecting additional qualifications during your studies.

The mandatory internship, as well as the module Job Skills are opportunities for trying out possible careers and acquiring professional qualifications.
