Program:Molecular Biotechnology
Degree: Master of Science (M.Sc.)
Program length: 2 years / 4 semesters (120 ECTS points)
Start: winter semester

Our Master's degree offers comprehensive training in molecular biotechnology's latest techniques and applications. It will prepare you for a career in biotech product research, development and commercialisation. You will learn from experts in the field and gain practical experience in state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities. The heavily research-oriented curriculum covers everything from gene editing and DNA technology to protein engineering and synthetic biology. It will equip you with the knowledge and skills to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our society today, such as climate change, health, food and energy. Our degree programme offers plenty of opportunities for practical research, including collaborations with industry partners and internships with leading biotech companies. You will graduate with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical and regulatory issues surrounding biotechnology and the practical skills needed to succeed in this rapidly evolving field.

Objectives:

As a graduate of the Master's programme, you will have a sound knowledge of molecular, micro- and cell biology of the structure and function of biological macromolecules and cellular systems, which is essential for biotechnological research and application. You will therefore be qualified for work in application and development-oriented occupational fields within the chemical-pharmaceutical industry.

  • Admission requirements

    Required university degree

We require proof of completion of a relevant Bachelor's degree programme in the biological sciences or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign university degree that qualifies students for a profession.
The Bachelor's degree that qualifies for a profession or comparable domestic or foreign higher education degree must have provided qualifications in biological disciplines. It must provide evidence of at least 30 credit points (CP) in subjects that can be found in the basic, advanced and specialisation biological modules of the Bachelor's degree programme in Biology at the Philipps-Universität Marburg. At least 12 CP in the associated subjects of mathematics and physics, which impart methodological competence, must also be demonstrated in the completed degree programme.

Certifications of program-specific knowledge and skills to be submitted prior to admissionEnglish skills according to level C1 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe”.
