Sensorimotor networks in essential tremor
Description
The mechanisms that lead to the development of rhythmic and oscillatory movements in essential tremor (ET) in the brain are not yet sufficiently understood. This collaborative project with colleagues from the Cagnan Group (University of Oxford) is an exploratory study with the aim of identifying the brain areas associated with the development and modulation of essential tremor. In addition, sensory feedback on brain activity linked to tremor will be considered. While ET patients perform motor tasks of varying difficulty, high-resolution electroencephalography (EEG) will be recorded. Kinematic data will be recorded using accelerometers and a motion tracking system using an Optitrack camera. The interactions between different brain structures and the influence of visual perception or expectation will be investigated.
