Retrospective comparison of different segmentations of the subthalamic nucleus on symptom control by deep brain stimulation" (retroDBS)

Description

In Parkinson's disease, the functional and structural connections of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) after stereotactic Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery are of particular interest. As the STN has extensive connections to large parts of the cerebral cortex, precise electrode placement is crucial. This study will test the accuracy of segmentation using different atlases to gain a better understanding of the circuitry within the STN. To this end, a retrospective study of patients will be conducted using pre- and post-operative imaging and extensive clinical testing. The aim is to investigate the preoperative functional connectivity of individual stimulation volumes and their influence on postoperative symptom control.
