The Geschichte der internationalen Politik / History of International Relations master's program is a research-oriented, four-semester program. It examines international politics from a historical science perspective and explores actors, interactions and ideas and implementations of international systems. With respect to period, it deals with modern history, from approx. 1500 to the present.
The program conveys approaches, theories and methods of historical science and related disciplines, which appertain to the historical analysis of international politics. In addition to empirical content – the history of international politics – theoretical-methodological training forms a core focus of the program. The academic title of Master of Arts (M.A.) in Humanities and Social Sciences is awarded upon completion.
Major topics
The Geschichte der internationalen Politik / History of International Relations master's program is divided into the study areas of "Actors, Structures and Processes," "Theories and Methods," "Import Area" and "Degree Area."
Students learn historical content from international politics, on the one hand. On the other, they learn about specific analytical instruments that enable them to understand the rules, mechanisms and complexities of international politics.
Objectives
Successful graduates of the “Geschichte der internationalen Politik / History of International Relations" master's program become suitable applicants for internationally operating companies, organizations, NGOs and cultural institutions, as well as in the media (public relations, journalism), in associations, in publishing, in politics and administration and in the traditional professional fields for historians in academia (universities, research institutes), museums, (exhibitions), libraries, archives and editorial staffs.
Admission requirements
Required university degree Degree from a subject-relevant bachelor's program in one of the following fields:
- Historical Sciences
- Legal Studies
- Social Sciences
- Theology
- Lingustics or cultural studies
- Economic Sciences
or certification of a comparable domestic or foreign qualifying university diploma.
At least 24 credit points in the area of historical disciplines and the related fundamental and ancillary studies must be certified. In this case, the program can be extended accordingly.
The Examination Board may combine the admission with the requirement that additional study achievements and / or examinations of at most to 12 CP. In this case, the program can be extended accordingly.Certifications of program-specific knowledge and skills to be submitted prior to admission German Skills:

Other language Skills:- English at Level B2 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe" and
- French, Italian or Spanish at Level B1 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages."
- Latin skills within the scope of the Latinum can be considered the French, Italien or Spanish skills.
