Nitrogen
Manfred Preis (Nitrogen Officer) and Robert Steffen (Deputy Nitrogen Officer) are responsible for ordering and managing liquid nitrogen.
Liquid nitrogen is stored in the former stables and can be drawn by working group members. The quantity drawn must be entered in the register in the tank storage room. When drawing liquid nitrogen, the following safety measures must be strictly observed:
- When drawing nitrogen, the door of the storage room must be kept open for the entire time the storage room is occupied, as there is a risk of suffocation in enclosed spaces without sufficient ventilation due to evaporation of the gas.
- Direct contact with liquid nitrogen can cause severe frostbite or cold burns, so the entire body must be covered during filling. In addition to appropriate clothing, special protective gloves and goggles must be worn. These are available in the storage room.
Further information and a code of conduct for handling liquid nitrogen can be found in the operating instructions for handling cryogenic liquefied gases and the instructions for filling liquid nitrogen.
