New study structure at Philipps-Universität Marburg
Flexible and individual - since the winter semester 2022/23, prospective students have even more diverse opportunities to study in Marburg, because the new study structure at Philipps-Universität offers even more freedom in the design of the Bachelor's program and strengthens interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
What exactly does the new study structure look like?
Students who begin their studies in Marburg have a choice: With the mono-bachelor, students concentrate on one subject area. With the combined bachelor's degree, a major subject is combined with one or two minor subjects. With one minor subject, students study for six semesters; with two minors, they study for eight semesters. Exceptional subject combinations are also possible. The range of courses will be successively expanded in the coming semesters. By the winter semester of 2023/24, there will be 24 majors and 43 minors to choose from.
What is the same for the mono and combined bachelor's degree are the MarSkills. These are ungraded subject-related and interdisciplinary modules on a wide range of social topics, such as climate protection or digitization. At no other university in Germany can so many credits be earned in this area as here in Marburg.
How we communicate the new study structure
The University of Marburg is using a communication campaign to draw the attention of prospective students to the new study program. The central message here is: “Werde Generation Marburg” (“Become Generation Marburg!")
Who is "Generation Marburg"?
The Brothers Grimm, Robert Wilhelm Bunsen or Hannah Arendt - those who studied or taught in Marburg are ready to change the world. In the course of its almost 500-year history, Philipps-Universität Marburg has produced numerous instigators, including eleven Nobel Prize winners. All of them were more than just specialists in their disciplines. Thinking new, different and further also characterizes the Marburg students of today, because they also provide current impulses for an increasingly complex society with their innovative ideas. With the new study structure, Philipps-Universität would like to offer future students even more diverse study options and specifically combine individual interests with interdisciplinary thinking and action. In this way, studying remains fit for the future and future students also have the chance to make the world a little bit better every day.
Whether thought leaders who have studied or taught at our university, whether current or future students, whether staff members who are committed every day to research, innovative teaching, a smooth course of studies, young talent, equal opportunities, excellent quality management, transdisciplinary knowledge transfer, comprehensive advising, constant continuing education, and the provision and maintenance of the entire infrastructure at the university: We all form the "Generation Marburg".
What is behind the communication campaign?
With the communication campaign "Become Generation Marburg!" we address all prospective students who want to become a part of Philipps-Universität Marburg. We welcome inquisitive and motivated students who care about social developments and want to make a difference.
Especially in social media, we address questions that many ask themselves before starting their studies: Which subject really suits me? Do I have to make a complete commitment right at the start? Can I study several things at the same time? The campaign aims to show how flexible and interdisciplinary studying in Marburg can be and that Marburg is the perfect place to study for committed and cosmopolitan students.
