iCARE-PD - Integrated Parkinson's Disease Networks Designing Complex Care for Parkinson's Disease Patients nowadays
Multinational study to develop novel care concepts for people with Parkinson's disease
Moving from 'inpatient/outpatient care' to 'home-based, integrated health care close to home' is the goal of the international collaborative project iCARE-PD. As part of the project, partners from Canada and Europe have developed an innovative and sustainable model of care in which Parkinson's patients and their families are supported locally and according to their needs. Specially trained professionals, called iCARE-PD nurses, play a central role as care coordinators and help patients navigate the local healthcare system.
In the current phase of the project, the care model is being implemented and evaluated for the first time in different countries and regions (including Marburg). As a partner in the project, we are not only taking on this responsible task, but are also researching how professionals can be trained for such a role in the future. Other partners in the joint project are also investigating the personal experiences and feelings of patients and relatives; the social, economic and geographical barriers to accessing alternative care models; and the potential of technology-based eHealth solutions to support day-to-day disease and care management. The results of the study will be used in the future to develop new approaches to care for people with Parkinson's disease, particularly in resource-poor areas.
