Eligibility assessment process - International Criminal Justice: Law, History, Politics (M.A.)
1. Documents to be submitted
The following documents and evidence are required for participation in the eligibility assessment process:
a) Application for admission (online application submitted via the online admission portal)
b) Proof of completion
- of the First State Examination in Law
- or a relevant Bachelor's degree programme in the field of law, history, social sciences, philosophy, economics, media studies, psychology, regional studies, geography, religious studies, gender studies, archives and documentation science or translation studies,
- or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign university professional degree.
c) Evidence of English proficiency at Level B2 according to the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
d) Curriculum vitae in tabular form consisting of 1-2 DIN A4 pages
e) A letter of no more than 2 A4 pages in which the applicant describes his/her expectations of the Master's programme "International Criminal Justice: Law, History, Politics" at the Philipps-Universität Marburg as well as his/her subject-related eligibility, which refers to personal engagement, interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team (especially collaborative work during courses), self-reflective work, practical experience in professional fields relevant to history graduates, foreign language competence and subject-related time abroad or academic engagement with topics related to history (e.g. in the Bachelor's thesis).
f) If applicable, further evidence of personal professional eligibility which relates to the aforementioned letter or the CV.
2. Criteria for personal subject-related eligibility
The personal subject-related eligibility is assessed on the basis of the submitted documents using the following criteria A total of up to 20 eligibility points can be achieved.
2.1. Final grade
Up to 11 eligibility points are awarded for the final grade or, if the final grade is not yet available, a submitted, calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the Bachelor's degree according to the specific grade table.
2.2. Prior specialist knowledge
Up to 4 eligibility points will be awarded on the assessment of the CV for prior professional knowledge. Examples of prior professional knowledge are:
- a relevant Bachelor's thesis and/or seminar papers
- specialisation during studies
- proven relevant practical experience and/or through documented participation in relevant qualification programmes such as summer schools, moot courts, conferences or non-university activities.
2.3. Personal professional eligibility
Up to 3 eligibility points are awarded on the evaluation of the CV as well as the letter mentioned in 1. e) for subject-related and personal eligibility, which refers to personal commitment, interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team (especially in collaborative work in courses), career planning and self-reflective work.
2.4. Foreign language skills
Eligibility points are awarded for language skills other than German and English equivalent to at least level B1 as defined by the European Framework of Reference for Languages. A maximum of 1 eligibility point is awarded per language.
Applicants who have achieved at least 10 eligibility points in the eligibility assessment process are considered suitable.
