History of the Friends' Association

The Association for the Promotion of the Institute for the History of Pharmacy at the Philipps-Universität Marburg e. V., which is recognised as a non-profit organisation, was founded in 1991.

The institute is based at Roter Graben 10. In 2023, the former Institute of the History of Pharmacy became the Institute of the History of Pharmacy and Medicine, thereby expanding its areas of responsibility. This was accompanied by a change in the name of the Friends' Association.

The aim of the association was, and still is, to support the only institute of its kind in the German-speaking world with projects that the institute cannot, or can only with difficulty, realise on its own. Thanks to the contributions of the currently approx. 150 members from all German-speaking countries, who support research and teaching at the Institute both financially and in terms of ideas, the Institute is able to conduct research into the history of pharmacy, medicine and the sciences at a high level.
