Creativity as an Approach to Academic Writing

At first glance, academic writing does not offer much room for creativity. We often focus too much on the perfect outcome, the perfect text and occasionally get stuck in behavioral patterns and mental one-way-streets.
If you cannot find a way out of these patterns, they might result in tiredness, writer’s block or even fear of writing. A way to work against these problems are creative methods, which break up the writing process and potentially improve it. They can help change perspective on your work and generate new ideas.
In this workshop, you will learn and try out creative writing methods. The first part will cover methods which are directly linked to the academic writing process. In the second part, I will elaborate on how creative writing as a hobby can contribute to becoming a better academic writer.
Please note that this workshop’s content corresponds to “Kreativität als Zugang zum wissenschaftlichen Schreiben”. The English version aims at international students, students whose native language is not German or students of an English language program, who prefer to write in English.
