MECAM-Fellowships for the IFG "Aesthetics & Cultural Practice"

How do aesthetic forms and cultural practices influence the process by which models and imaginations of the future are (re-)negotiated in the Maghreb? How do they reflect disparities? And vice-versa, what influence do societal transformations have on aesthetic and cultural practices?

In the context of these questions, MECAM invites applications for its first Interdisciplinary Fellow Group (IFG) "Aesthetics & Cultural Practice". MECAM invites researchers at all career stages with a disciplinary background from the fields of literature, theatre and media studies as well as cultural studies to apply for five short-term fellowships for the period from April to July 2021.

The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) will be established this year at the Université de Tunis/Tunisia to strengthen cooperation in the Humanities and Social Sciences in and across the Maghreb, the Middle East, and Europe. MECAM is a joint endeavour of a consortium of renowned Tunisian and German research institutions: Philipps-Universität Marburg, Université de Tunis, Universität Leipzig, German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), Forum Transregionale Studien, Institut Tunisien des Études Stratégiques (ITES), University of Sfax/Tunisia. MECAM is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research – the Université de Tunis offers complementary resources. MECAM’s overall theme “Imagining Futures: Dealing with Disparity” is guiding MECAM’s research agenda on questions of Aesthetics & Cultural Practice, Inequality & Mobility, Memory & Justice, Resources & Sustainability, and Identities & Beliefs that constitute the core issues of MECAM’s five thematic research clusters and Interdiciplinary Fellow Groups (IFG).

Extended Deadline:  15 October 2020; 24.00h CET.
