20.01.2025 Anthony Quickel, PhD Islamic Studies Marburg starts new job at Max-Planck Institute Berlin

Anthony Quickel completed his PhD at Philipps-Universität Marburg with a dissertation titled "Egypt’s Quiet Sixteenth Century: Transformation and the Production of Knowledge During the Mamluk-Ottoman Transition."

He has now taken up his position as a postdoctoral researcher in Department III: Artifacts, Action, Knowledge at the at Max-Planck Institute Berlin. His current research examines how inanimate natural materials, particularly metals and minerals, were perceived and utilized in medieval Egypt, with a particular focus on the Mamluk Sultanate. The project lasts from 2025 to 2027 and is named "Metals and Minerals: Between Knowledge and Practice in the Mamluk Sultanate"
