06.05.2022 Call for Applications- From Paper to Portals: The Conservation and Digitization of Oriental Manuscripts

International Summer School 2022

The German-Egyptian DAAD-funded project “Cultural Heritage in Cyberspace: Education, Preservation, and Access” invites interested graduate and doctoral students to submit abstracts for consideration for the International Summer School 2022 on “Conservation and Digitization of Oriental Manuscripts”. The Summer School will be held at the Gotha Research Library from the 18th to the 22nd of July, 2022. It aims at providing participants with didactic and technical training on how to research, conserve, and digitize oriental manuscripts. Moreover, participants will acquire knowledge of innovative techniques and the latest academic research in the fields of Manuscripts and Heritage Studies. We invite scholars, educators, and advanced graduate and doctoral students in Islamic Studies, Arabic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Heritage Studies, and Digital Humanities to attend and present their contributions. The Summer School will be held in English, German, and Arabic.

Requirements and qualifications
• Being a graduate student, researcher, or staff member in the fields of Islamic Studies, Arabic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Heritage Studies, Library and Information Science, Archaeology, Heritage Conservation, and Digital Humanities in Egyptian and German institutions
• Good command of English

Your application should include a one-page motivation letter, a short CV, and a short description of the project you are currently working on or wish to present (max. 1 page). Please submit your application
by 25th of May, 2022.

Please note that there are no application forms to be filled out; only the aforementioned documents are required.
