A new study on „The impact of declining oil rents on tax revenues: Does the shadow economy matter?” by Phoebe W. Ishak (Universität Hamburg) and Mohammad Reza Farzanegan (CNMS/FB02/Philipps-Universität Marburg) is in press in Energy Economics.

Highlights
• We estimate final effect of negative oil shocks on tax receipts.
• Results are based on panel data from 1991 to 2015 and 124 countries.
• We show that the size of shadow economy (SE) matters.
• SE impedes government taxation efforts during economic downturns.
