Doctoral workshop alongside the annual meeting of the German Finance Association

The German Finance Association will again be holding a workshop for advanced doctoral students alongside its upcoming conference at the University of Marburg.
This one-day event on Thursday, 29 September 2022 offers doctoral students the opportunity to present their research and to discuss its content and methodology with leading representatives of the field.
To allocate sufficient time for presentation and discussion we will accept a maximum of 8 doctoral students.

The participating faculty members are (subject to change):

  • Prof. Dr. Ralf Elsas (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München)
  • Prof. Dr. Joachim Grammig (Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen)
  • Prof. Dr. Stefan Ruenzi (Universität Mannheim)
  • Prof. Dr. Christian Schlag (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt)
  • Prof. Dr. Erik Theissen (Universität Mannheim)

Applications should be sent exclusively via e-mail to Prof. Dr. Erik Theissen (, subject: "Application DGF Doctoral Workshop 2022")
The application must include (as a pdf file) one paper that will be part of the dissertation. Doctoral students who do not write a cumulative dissertation may instead submit a three- to five-page summary of the dissertation project. Topics include the main areas of modern finance, such as corporate finance, asset pricing, derivatives, market microstructure, international finance and financial intermediation.

The deadline for applications is June 30th, 2022.

Furthermore, the following information is required in the mail text (no further cover letter is required):

  • Name and address of the applicant (including e-mail)
  • Name and address of the supervisor (including e-mail)
  • Subject of the dissertation

The German Finance Association will reimburse travel and accommodation expenses for the participants up to an amount of 200 €.
The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Stiftung für die Wissenschaft) donates a best doctoral student paper award worth 1,000 €. The prize is awarded for the best presentation during the doctoral workshop. The award will be presented during the main conference for which the participation fee will be waived.
Please forward this call for applications to your doctoral students. Several doctoral students of the same supervisor may apply. However, a maximum of one doctoral student per supervisor can participate.
