English taught Modules for Exchange Students

Exchange students will be accepted in a wide range of modules that the Department offers if they have adequate language skills in the language of instruction. Starting in the winter term 2021/22, we also have english-taught modules for exchange students. In the list below you can find all offered modules, the ECTS points for each module and a short description of the content. These interdisciplinary modules are offered every semester term, only the associated seminars and lectures within the modules may vary. You can combine the modules as you wish in your study plan.

  • Global Studies (12 ECTS)

    The interactions of global and local, respectively of social and cultural processes are in the foreground here, together with an introduction to political science analyses of international politics. You will develop a critical perspective on globalization, its actors and its consequences.

    The module consists of two seminars with discussions, group work and presentations. Please choose two seminars out of these:

  • Conflict and Society (12 ECTS)

    The module offers you an overview over approaches to conflict and society in different disciplines. Using empirical examples of conflicts on all levels (local, national, international), you learn about various concepts and theories of conflict as well as conflict management. You may also participate in a simulation game as an actor in a fictional conflict.

    The module consists of two seminars with discussions, group work and presentations and comprises 4 credit hours. Instead of a seminar, the simulation "Creating Peace" (Rosania) may be chosen. Please choose two seminars out of these:

  • European Politics and Society (6 ECTS)

    You acquire an overview of the history of European politics, relevant theoretical approaches, about institutions and actors, and about the role of the European Union and the European nations in the world. In this module, you will discuss current national social processes and European integration.

  • Gender and Society (12 ECTS)

    This module provides an introduction to women's and gender studies, including exemplary analysis of gender-specific and gender-hierarchical problem constellations. Furthermore, you will investigate power, rule and social inequality in the context of gender hierarchies and gender constructs respectively gender democracy and gender emancipation.

  • Cultures and Societies (6 ECTS)

    You will explore the research fields of cultural studies (ethnologies, anthropologies) using current research as an example. You will investigate what is meant by culture in a cultural studies research approach and discover recent theoretical and methodological perspectives from the perspective of various disciplines.

  • Religion, Ethics and Philosophy (12 ECTS)

    The module gives you an insight into different subject areas and research fields of Philosophy and the Study of religions. Ethical questions are dealt with from the perspectives of these and other subjects, for example, to examine ecological, social or gender-specific topics with regard to their ethical implications. In this way you will also acquire knowledge of current issues in these subjects.
