„The development of developmental regulation across the lifespan ”
Although a lifespan perspective seems to have been accepted in almost all recent textbooks as a terminological framework of developmental psychology, developmental psychology research continues to focus far predominantly on competencies or phenomena and their changes at specific life stages. While there are several theories that examine - beyond specific phenomena - processes of developmental regulation, there is also in this respect a lack of lifespan approaches, both theoretically and empirically. Using the example of one particular developmental regulatory process, this talk will not only argue for the fruitfulness of a processoriented approach to developmental psychology, but at the same time explore prospects for a serious lifespan perspective that focuses on the development of developmental regulatory processes.
