„Bridging Theory and Practice: The Goal-Directed Predictive Processing Framework in Behaviour Change”
How can we effectively understand and target behaviours that negatively impact individuals or their environment? This talk introduces the Goal-Directed Predictive Processing (GDPP) framework—an integrative approach that draws on robust insights from predictive coding and goal-directed theories to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application.
The GDPP framework focuses on assessing the inference chains that underlie harmful behaviours in risk situations, mapping out alternative inferential processes in relation to expected surprise, and designing targeted interventions to influence these processes. By offering an integrative lens for analysing and modifying behaviour, the GDPP framework provides actionable strategies for creating effective behaviour change interventions.
The practical application of this framework will be illustrated through research on the effectiveness of behaviour change interventions in the contexts of pro-environmental behaviour, impulse control, and alcohol consumption.
