 "Spotlights on Linguistic Representations"

Vom 30. September bis zum 1. Oktober 2024 trafen sich an der Philipps-Universität Marburg im Forschungsbau des Forschungszentrum Deutscher Sprachatlas ca. 50 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler mit internationalem Renommée, um über sprachliche Repräsentationen zu diskutieren. Der von den Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden sowie dem Postdoc des GRK 2700 organisierte Workshop hatte zum Ziel, in interaktiver Atmosphäre den Austausch zwischen den Forscherinnen und Forschern sowie ihrer verschiedenen Disziplinen zu fördern.

Adele Goldberg's Keynote Speech "Linguistic representations: Memory and generalizations"

Der Workshop wurde mit einer Keynote von Adele Goldberg (Princeton, USA) eröffnet. Im Anschluss hielten die Gäste in drei Sektionen unter den Themen Language & Environment, Language & Cognition sowie Brain & Speech kurze Spotlightvorträge von 15-20 Minuten gefolgt von einer Fragerunde. Jede thematische Sektion wurde durch eine von den Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden sowie dem Postdoc moderierte Gruppenarbeitsphase abgerundet. Hier wurden in Kleingruppen unter anderem übergeordnete Fragen diskutiert und offene Forschungsfragen formuliert.

Kotz (Maastricht, Niederlande), Lars Meyer (Leipzig), Yvonne Portele (Frankfurt/Berlin), Christoph Purschke (Luxemburg), Stefan Rabanus (Verona, Italien), Laura Schiffl (München), Elena Smirnova (Neuchâtel, Schweiz), Philipp Striedl (Zürich, Schweiz).

Die Anwesenden lobten die angenehme Atmosphäre, die lebendigen Diskussionen sowie die ausgezeichnete Organisation. So wird nicht nur die Arbeit im GRK nachhaltig von dieser Veranstaltung profitieren.

Brief report on the international Workshop Spotlights on Linguistic Representations

On September 30 and October 1, 2024, about 50 internationally reknowned scientists met at Philipps-University of Marburg in the building of the Research Center Deutscher Sprachatlas to discuss linguistic representations. Organized by PhD candidates and the postdoc of the research training group 2700, the workshop aimed to foster an atmosphere of interaction and collaboration between the scientists and their different disciplines. 

The workshop opened with a keynote by Adele Goldberg (Princeton, USA). Afterwards, the guests gave brief spotlight talks of 15-20 minutes, each followed by a discussion, in three sections under the topics of Language & Environment, Language & Cognition and Brain & Speech. Each thematic session was closed by a group discussion which were moderated by the PhD students and the postdoc. These sessions provided the researchers the opportunity to formulate overarching or open research questions in smaller groups.

All guests praised the pleasant atmosphere, the lively discussions and the excellent organization. Therefore, in the long run, more than just the work within the RTG will benefit from this workshop.
