Im Rahmen der digitalen Vortragsreihe "Bonn+Marburg Celtic Seminar: History of Celtic Studies" findet am 16. Januar um 18 Uhr der Vortrag von Joep Leerssen (University of Amsterdam) statt.

Celtic Philology and Convivial Networks

An important hatching-ground for Celtic Studies was the convivial circle around Lady Llanover in early-19th-century Wales. I want to map the importance of this group by means of a small social network analysis, and highlight its "multiscalarity" between salon and academia, domesticity and transnationalism. Analogies with the Bökendorf and Tengström Circles in Germany and Finland are suggestive for this type of phenomenon as a transitional phase between amateur learning and academic professionalization, with (briefly...) a prominent role for women.
