02.11.2021 Ilka Agricola zum Fellow der American Mathematical Society (AMS) ernannt

Die 1888 in New York gegründete "American Mathematical Society“ (AMS) ist die mitgliederstärkste mathematische Fachgesellschaft der Welt und nimmt als solche eine besondere Rolle in der internationalen Zusammenarbeit ein. Im Jahr 2012 hat sie den Ehrentitel „Fellow of the AMS“ eingeführt. Dazu führt die AMS auf Ihrer Webseite aus:

"The Fellows of the American Mathematical Society program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics. […] The goals of the Fellows Program are to create an enlarged class of mathematicians recognized by their peers as distinguished for their contributions to the profession, [and] to honor not only the extraordinary but also the excellent. [...]“

Jährlich werden in einem hoch kompetitiven und mehrstufigen Verfahren weltweit um die 50 Mathematikerinnen und Mathematiker in dieses Programm aufgenommen (Inaugural Class of Fellows 2022). In Deutschland sind insgesamt ca. 25 Personen „Fellows of the AMS". Es ist eine besondere Ehre für die Philipps-Universität Marburg und den Fachbereich Mathematik und Informatik, dass mit Frau Prof. Dr. habil. Ilka Agricola nach Prof. Dr. Harald Upmeier (Inaugural Class of Fellows, 2013) bereits einem zweiten Mitglied des Fachbereichs diese besondere Ehre zuteil wird.

Neben ihrer Tätigkeit im Fachbereich 12 ist Prof.Agricola derzeit Mitglied des Senats der Philipps-Universität und Präsidentin der Deutschen Mathematiker-Vereinigung (DMV).
