Wofür benötigen wir finanzielle Mittel? 

Wir hoffen, dass ein Teil der Materialien und Komponenten, die zum Bau unseres Zusatzgeräts CARL (siehe Subseite), welches ein CPAP-Gerät zu einem Beatmungsgerät erweitern kann, benötigt werden, von Firmen gespendet werden. Vermutlich werden wir dennoch Material und Komponenten zukaufen müssen.

Um nun aber ein einfaches Bild zu verwenden:
CARL ist nur ein Teil „des Autos“. Man könnte sagen, CARL bildet die Reifen. Der Rest des Autos, also das Auto ohne Reifen wird durch das bestehende CPAP-Basisgerät repräsentiert. Nur zusammen erhält man ein funktionstüchtiges System. 

Ein einzelnes CPAP-Gerät kostet in etwa 1500 Euro. Leistungsfähigere Systeme (z.B. BiPAP), die höhere Beatmungsdrücke aufbauen können, kosten mehrere tausend Euro.

Den Großteil der Spenden möchten wir für den Zukauf von CPAP-Geräten verwenden, wobei wir voraussichtlich auch einige BiPAP-Geräte anschaffen wollen, da diese noch leistungsfähiger sind (höhere Beatmungsdrücke).

Diese Geräte möchten wir mit CARL erweitern und dann Kliniken spenden, die die Geräte dann an andere Kliniken weitergeben können, wenn sie sie aktuell nicht selbst benötigen aber an anderen Orten Bedarf besteht. 

Hoffen wir, dass wir sie nie brauchen und in unseren Intensivstationen nie so schreckliche Zustände herrschen werden, wie in anderen Ländern.

Ohne das jetzt rechtssicher sagen zu können (wir sind keine Juristen mit dem Spezialgebiet Medizinrecht), gehen wir davon aus, dass die Geräte nach einer Zulassung in Deutschland auch in den europäischen Ländern eingesetzt werden können.

Zudem: Wir benötigen auch eine professionelle Dokumentation zur Handhabung der Geräte, in mehreren Sprachen. Auch dafür müssten wir einen Auftrag vergeben, wenn sich niemand findet, der dies kostenfrei übernimmt.

Why do we need financial support?

We hope that some of the parts that are neccessary to build our CPAP extension unit CARL will be provided free of charge by manufacturers. Probably, it will nevertheless be neccessary to buy some of the required components.

To use a metaphor:
CARL ist a part of "the car". One could say: CARL provides the tires of the car. The rest of the car is provided by the basic CPAP unit (that is widely available). Only if brought together, we end up with a operational system that can be used to fight Corona.

An individual CPAP-unit costs about 1500 Euro. More powerful systems (as BiPAP) which can provide larger ventilation pressures are in the range of several thousand Euro.

We want to use the major part of the donations to buy CPAP units as well as BiPAP units which are more powerful.

We want to extend all these units with CARL and then provide the hospitals of the combined systems free of charge. The hospitals are then supposed to distribute these systems to other hospitals requiring support once they are no longer needed in their own houses.

Clearly we hope that these systems will not be neccessary and that our intensive care units in hospitals will be able to treat their patients with the commercial ventilation units.

We are not able to say this with legal compliance since we are no law experts. Yet, we believe that the units will be approved also in other countires once we receive operation permission in Germany.

In addition, we will need a professional documentation for our units in different languages. If we do not find someone willing to provide this free of charge, we will also need money to provide these documentations.
