Our group is interested in the formation and accumulation of plant specialised compounds on molecular and biochemical levels, predominantly phenolic metabolites. A better knowledge of the biosynthetic pathways leading to these biologically active compounds can result in a higher production of the pharmaceutically relevant compounds. Plant in vitro-cultures are used as source of plant material for the molecular and biochemical investigations and as production systems for active plant metabolites. Furthermore, we want to learn more about the evolution of these biosynthetic pathways.
