Im Rahmen seines Seminars zu Veteranenpolitik spricht Thorsten Bonacker am Donnerstag, 17.02., mit Jaremey McMullin zu dem Dokumentations- und Kurzfilm "Silkies". Jaremey McMullin ist Senior Lecturer für Frieden und Konflikt an der University St. Andrews und forscht zu Abrüstung, Demobilisierung und Reintegration (Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR)) von Ex-Kombattanten und zur Politk der Rückkehr von Veteranen aus Kriegskontexten.

Über den Film (Englischer Abstract):
"Silkies is a documentary short film about an unorthodox way to bring military veterans together to prevent suicide. It profiles the work of Irreverent Warriors, who organize dozens of Silkies Hikes each year across the United States, where men and women gather wearing only their insanely short military-issue ‘silkies’ boxer briefs. The film documents how the Hikers deploy their agency to prevent rather than just ‘raise awareness’ about suicide. In this discussion and Q&A about the documentary, the film’s director, Jaremey McMullin (Univ of St Andrews), will discuss veterans’ agency situated within contexts of alternative and complementary therapeutic modalities of return-from-war. He will also analyse the Hikers’ agency alongside feminist and queer theoretical insights related to embodiment, social suffering, moral injury, and politics of refusal."
