12.04.2024 Philipp Lottholz tritt Vertretungsprofessur für das Sommersemester 2024 an

Dr. Philipp Lottholz vertritt im Sommersemester die Professur für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (Prof. Dr. Thorsten Bonacker). Er führt außerdem seine Mitarbeit im SFB/TRR138 „Dynamiken der Sicherheit“ im  Teilprojekt B05 „Ver- und Entsicherheitlichung treuhändischer Übergangsverwaltungen“ weiter. Dort erforscht er die Aushandlung internationaler Regierungs- und Verwaltungspraktiken innerhalb des Treuhandrates der Vereinten Nationen mit besonderem Fokus auf die Rolle der Sowjetunion. Weitere Forschungsschwerpunkte sind gesellschaftliche Ordnungs- und Transformationsprozesse in Zentralasien aus post-liberaler Perspektive, und die vergleichende Analyse von Infrastrukturen und gesellschaftlicher Mobilisierung. Lottholz ist Mitherausgeber für Buchrezensionen in der Zeitschrift Central Asian Survey und aktives Mitglied im Arbeitskreis Herrschaftskritische Friedensforschung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (AFK). 

In Sommersemester bietet Lottholz im Master und Bachelor-Nebenfach für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung vier Veranstaltungen an. In der Vorlesung „Gewaltkonflikte und Friedensprozesse“ führt er Studierende in die globale Konfliktkonstellation nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg, in aktuelle Konflikte und in die sich wandelnden Formen von UN Friedensmissionen sowie zivilgesellschaftlicher Friedensbildung und Konfliktbearbeitung ein. Im gleichen Themenbereich bietet er auch das Forschungsseminar „Internationales Regieren in postkolonialen und Nachkriegsgesellschaften“ an, in dem Ansätze zur Erforschung von Herrschaft, Widerstand und Konflikten erarbeitet und zur Anwendung gebracht werden. Neben einem weiteren Master-Seminar zu „Politics and Society in Central Asia“ bietet er außerdem ein Seminar „Jugend, Gesellschaft und Politik“, in dem soziologische und politikwissenschaftlicher Perspektiven zur Situation und der Rolle von Jugend in aktuellen Fragestellungen und Prozessen erarbeitet werden. 

 Philipp Lottholz ist seit 2022 an der Philipps-Universität Marburg beschäftigt und war im Rahmen des SFB/TRR138 „Dynamiken der Sicherheit“ bereits im WiSe 2018/19 Gastwissenschaftler am Zentrum für Konfliktforschung sowie zwischenzeitlich an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen tätig. 

Zuvor hatte er seine Promotion an der Universität Birmingham (International Development Department, 2018) abgeschlossen und als Post-Doc Fellow am „UN and Global Order Programme“ der Universität Reading gearbeitet. 

 Philipp Lottholz takes up Visiting Professorship for the summer term 2024

Dr Philipp Lottholz is taking over the Chair of Peace and Conflict Studies (Prof. Dr Thorsten Bonacker) in the summer term. He will continue his work in the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 138 "Dynamics of Security" in sub-project B05 "Securitization and Desecuritization in International Trusteeship Administrations". He investigates the negotiation of international governing and administrative practices within the United Nations Trusteeship Council with a special focus on the role of the Soviet Union. Further research interests include social ordering and transformation in Central Asia from a post-liberal perspective, and the comparative analysis of community-level infrastructures and social mobilisation. Lottholz is Book Reviews Co-Editor of Central Asian Survey and an active member of the  Critical Peace Research Working Group  of the German Association for Peace and Conflict Studies (AFK).

This term, Lottholz is offering four courses in the MA and BA Minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. In the lecture "Violent Conflicts and Peace Processes", he introduces students to the global conflict constellation after the Second World War, current conflicts and the changing forms of UN peace missions as well as civil society efforts in peacebuilding and dealing with conflict. In the same subject area, he offers the research seminar "International Governance in Post-Colonial and Post-War Societies", in which approaches to researching rule, resistance and conflict are developed and applied. Apart from another MA seminar on "Politics and Society in Central Asia", he also offers a seminar on "Youth, Society, and Politics", in which sociological and political science perspectives on the situation and role of youth in current issues and processes are developed.

Philipp Lottholz has been employed at Philipps-University of Marburg since 2022 and has held, in the framework of the CRC/TRR138 "Dynamics of Security", positions as Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Conflict Studies (winter term 2018/19) and as Post-Doctoral Fellow at Justus Liebig University Giessen (2019-2021).

Prior to this, he completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham (International Development Department, 2018) and worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the UN and Global Order Programme at the University of Reading.
