Getting Started – Time and Self-Management
The objective of this workshop is to optimize your individual time and self-management during your PhD phases.

The objective of this workshop is to optimize your individual time and self-management during the PhD phases. You will reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of your personal work habits and procrastination strategies. You will identify daily distractions and develop strategies to counteract distractions to more efficiently achieve your personal goals. You will learn to define milestones in order to identify priorities and organize your tasks accordingly. The overall focus of the workshop lies on the improvement of your current scientific work situation. Tutorials will be offered to inform you about strategies and techniques. You will obtain the methodological competence to design your personal systems of time and self-management, which can also be applied to new situations in the future.
Intended Learning Outcomes
- You will be able to improve your time and self-management by applying strategies and techniques.
- You will be able to identify distracting factors and develop counteraction strategies.
- You will be able to verbalize personal goals and define milestones.
- You will know how to set priorities and how to organize your tasks accordingly.
- You will be able to identify your personal energy peaks and know how to use them in planning your activities on a daily and weekly basis.
Didactic Methods
Situation analysis and self-reflection, tutorials on methods and techniques, discussion of best practices in small groups and the plenum, individual action planning and application of methods and techniques
Requirements
Please note that this is not an English language course. Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.
This event is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
