After a short theoretical introduction, you will work with an example from your own research project, which you are asked to bring to the workshop. You will formulate a meaningful core message, which you will then visualize in a creative way, for instance, in the form of a chart for presentation or as a cover page for a project application for third-party funding. The results of your individual work and the steps that you took will be discussed in the group, and you will benefit from constructive feedback.
The workshop is not about learning any specific presentation software but about using design elements in a purposeful manner and presenting a research project in a comprehensible, compact, and visually appealing way.
Intended Learning Outcomes
You will
- Be familiar with basic design rules and be able to use them intentionally (fonts, images, color),
- Understand basic design principles,
- Know how to create eyecatchers,
- Be aware of ways to visualize complex content,
- Be able to assess the strength of your visualization and will have learned how to optimize it (constructive feedback),
- Gain confidence in visualizing your research topic,
- Be able to recognize good designs and explain why they are good by referring to concrete design aspects, and
- Have acquired visualization skills with the potential to enhance your success in acquiring third-party funding.
Requirements
You are required to bring along your own research project — whether completed or in progress — as the basis for your visualization.
Please send a short summary (not more than half a page) of the project/visualization you want to work on (along with your questions) by June 25, 2021 to Elisabeth Werner: e.werner@punktweiss.de
