09.12.2020 "#4EuropeanGenderStudies: Politics and Future Strategies"
The German Gender Studies Association invites to a roundtable discussion in the context of the fourth edition of the Science Day #4GenderStudies on Friday, December 18 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm (CET) (online).
Due to increasing antifeminist and right-wing attacks since 2017, the Science Day #4GenderStudies intends to show Gender Studies in all its diversity, thereby focusing on its academic and social added value. This year, the German Gender Studies Association initiates a debate on the current European shift with its nationalist narratives and structures, including the recent developments of narrowing down the unruly possibilities of Gender Studies within neoliberal institutions of knowledge production. Starting from the seemingly obvious developments of restriction and regulation in South East and Eastern Europe like Romania and Poland, the discussion will focus not only on the status quo of academic freedom in Germany and the aforementioned countries and regions, but rather dedicates to the resistant movements, entangled forms of the resilience of activist movements, journalism and academia, and the importance of alliances against antifeminist attacks.
Speakers:
Manuela Boatcă (University of Freiburg)
Maria Cernat (Titu Maiorescu University Bucharest)
