Program length: 6 semesters / 3 years (180 ECTS points)
The objective of the Nah- und Mitteloststudien / Middle Eastern Studies Bachelor's program is to acquire broad fundamental knowledge of the countries of the Near and Middle East and to acquire expertise in one or more of the central trade or cultural languages of this region. Students will acquire a historical overview that grants them access to the region, in all of its diversity and dynamism, and qualifies them to allocate social, political and cultural processes and dynamics to greater contexts. This applies both for the historical depth of the 5,000-year cultural history and to present circumstances. In addition, broad intercultural expertise is developed through methodological expertise and systematic reflection and the interdisciplinary and international nature of the program.

In the Nah- und Mitteloststudien / Middle Eastern Studies Bachelor program, you may study the whole range of subjects or choose one of the two areas of specialization, which follow a permanently specified progression:
- Politics of the Near and Middle East
- Economy of the Near and Middle East
In general, the program provides you with a general overview of the region, in that you choose modules according to your interests from a wide-ranging course offering.
In addition, you can freely choose from a broad selection from the offerings of other programs, including those outside of the subject, so that you can create interdisciplinary approaches to the region. In this way, you will open up the Near and Middle East and the MENA region with individual accentuation.
Objectives
Professional opportunities for graduates of the Nah- und Mitteloststudien / Middle Eastern Studies Bachelor program are found in particular in the fields of cultural mediation and intercultural training, cultural and scientific management,
foundation work, political and entrepreneurial consulting, adult education, migration work, public service, media and tourism, language instruction, consulting and expert services, as well as the organization of international events and exhibitions.
The intensive language and disciplinary education at the CNMS prepares you in the best possible way for entry into your professional life.
