16.10.2024 A New Publication in The Lancet: Sanctions & Health
A correspondence authored by Professors Farzanegan (Philipps-Universität Marburg, CNMS), Majdzadeh (University of Essex, UK) and Sajadi (University of Medical Sciences, Iran) is published in The Lancet.
Authors have raised serious concerns about the health effects of sanctions.
While sanctions may serve diplomatic objectives, their impact on health cannot be ignored.
The 71st World Health Organization EMRO committee meeting on Oct 16, 2024, in Qatar is a crucial initiative under the slogan “Health beyond borders: action, access, and equity.” It aims to develop standardized methods for assessing the health effects of economic sanctions and establish advocacy channels to address these issues.
We need independent humanitarian channels to ensure access to essential medicines and support for those affected. Stronger health systems and partnerships are essential.
Economic sanctions should not compromise health.
