Academic Field
The postgraduate program in Iranian Studies in Marburg is designed to embrace two academic approaches:
- The philological courses focus on Iranian languages and literature in its diversity
- The historical and cultural-anthropological courses are addressing topics concerning the Iranian society, history, religions and culture from antiquity to the present.
The Department of Iranian Studies at Marburg University is embedded in the Department of Foreign Languages and the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies. Based on a profound language training we attempt to convey a broad image of today’s Iranian culture and society. The geographical area encompasses present Iran and the adjacent Persian speaking regions of Afghanistan and Tajikistan, and in the broader context of cultural history South Asia, Anatolia and the Caucus as well.
