The SHARINPEACE project has released a comprehensive policy brief titled "Bridging the Gap between Education and Practice in Peacebuilding and Human Rights: The SHARINPEACE Crisis Intervention Simulation – A Policy Brief for University Educators". Authored by Oscar Noach, Chiara De Franco, and Ingvild Bode, this publication provides key insights into how simulation-based learning can enhance the integration of human rights within peacebuilding education.

The policy brief highlights the Crisis Intervention Simulation (CRIS), developed within the SHARINPEACE framework as a dynamic educational tool that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical decision-making. CRIS enables students to engage with real-world conflict scenarios, fostering essential skills such as negotiation, critical analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Drawing from the experiences of European universities, the brief offers concrete recommendations for integrating simulation-based methods into higher education curricula.

Three core recommendations emerge from the report: first, universities should prioritise practitioner engagement in simulation-based learning, ensuring that students gain first-hand insights from professionals in the field. Second, using real-life cases in simulations enhances contextual understanding and prepares students for the complexities of human rights and peacebuilding challenges. Third, purpose-built simulation modules should be embedded within academic programmes to provide structured and reflective learning opportunities.

The policy brief serves as a valuable resource for university educators seeking to enhance experiential learning methods in Peace and Conflict Studies and related disciplines. By advocating for innovative teaching approaches, SHARINPEACE contributes to equipping future policymakers and peace practitioners with the necessary competencies to address global challenges. The full policy brief is available on the SHARINPEACE website.
