Project Results (PR1-6) / Work Packages
The aim of SHARINPEACE was to implement an interdisciplinary, transnational, online module "Human Rights & Peacebuilding". Of particular note is the Crisis Intervention Simulation (CRIS) in which students have to react cooperatively to crises in the role of international organisations. The module is developed and implemented in cooperation with policy/peace practioners. SHARINPEACE envisages six Project Results (PR1-6) / Work Packages
Mapping the Nexus of Human Rights Education and Peacebuilding PR1
This Work Package (PR1) serves as the conceptual cornerstone of the SHARINPEACE project, focusing on integrating human rights education and peacebuilding into academic curricula. By conducting a comprehensive literature review and evaluating European Master’s-level Peace and Conflict Studies programmes, PR1 established a robust framework that bridges universal principles with local sensitivities, equipping students to address the complexities of conflict resolution and sustainable peacebuilding.
Stakeholder’s Perspectives: Exploring Needs and Experiences PR2
This Work Package (PR2) provided crucial insights into developing the SHARINPEACE module by engaging students, educators, and policy/peace practitioners. Focus groups and interviews with stakeholders identified essential competencies, practical recommendations for simulations, and the integration of real-world expertise, establishing a robust foundation for equipping students to address the ethical and operational complexities of human rights and peacebuilding.
Resources for Teaching and Learning Human Rights in Peacebuilding PR3
The Work Package PR3 developed a detailed syllabus and teaching materials for a two-part academic module integrating human rights into peacebuilding education. Grounded in insights from earlier Work Packages and employing the Constructive Alignment methodology, PR3 produced adaptable resources that combine theoretical and practical elements, enabling educators to implement and modify the module across diverse conflict scenarios.
Tools for Teaching and Learning Human Rights in Peacebuilding PR4
The Work Package PR4 was crucial to the SHARINPEACE project, addressing the technical infrastructure required for its module and pilot runs while navigating diverse IT systems and data protection regulations across consortium universities. Despite initial challenges in establishing a unified platform, the adoption of tools like WorkAdventure and Mattermost in the second pilot significantly enhanced the simulation’s interaction and immersion, offering valuable insights for refining digital tools in online education.
Piloting the Module “Human Rights in Peacebuilding” PR5
Project Result 5 (PR5) focused on piloting components of the “Human Rights and Peacebuilding” module, with two iterations testing the Crisis Intervention Simulation (CRIS) and related teaching methodologies to refine the curriculum. The pilots explored the intersection of peacebuilding and human rights, integrating advanced tools like WorkAdventure and Mattermost, and culminating in outputs such as CRIS guidelines.
Policy Brief: How to Teach and Learn Human Rights in Peacebuilding in Europe PR6
Project Result 6 (PR6), aimed to disseminate SHARINPEACE’s findings and promote its innovative educational framework to academic and policy-making audiences. Key outputs, including a Policy Brief highlighting the Crisis Intervention Simulation (CRIS) as a bridge between theoretical learning and practical application, alongside an academic paper and an interdisciplinary conference, underscored the importance of practice-informed strategies for integrating human rights and peacebuilding into higher education curricula while addressing global challenges.
