More about the person

Claudia Schwirplies has been replacing Prof. Korn as head of the Microeconomics working group since October 2022. Prior to this, she was a research associate and deputy professor at the University of Hamburg. She received her doctorate from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Kassel and previously studied economics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. Further information can be found on her webpage.

Research interests

Her research focuses on environmental and behavioral economics as well as donations and pursues three main goals:

  • Understanding motivations and identifying effective instruments, institutions and other factors that encourage contributions to (environmental) public goods and charities
  • Identifying potential long-term effects, interactions and spillover effects
  • Investigating strategic and non-strategic interactions between relevant actors.

For her research, she uses naturally occurring data, data from surveys and discrete choice experiments as well as from laboratory and field experiments to better understand the decision-making processes of relevant actors for environmental and climate protection and pro-social behavior in general.
