Bernd Hayo is professor of Macroeconomics. His research focus is quite broad, typically employing various empirical methods. Particular emphasis is placed on studying questions related to Macroeconomic Policy, Political Economy, Socio-Economics, and Law and Economics. In his approach to institutional economics, he analyses both formal and informal institutions, inasmuch as they can be measured by empirical data. Illustrating his extensive institutional economics perspective are studies on the design of central banks, the endogeneity of constitutions, the organisation of old-age care, and the relationship between group interaction, rules, and co-operative behaviour.
