Wolfgang Kerber is professor for Economic Policy. In accordance with the German tradition of the "Freiburger Schule", he sees the task of economic policy in searching for the proper institutional framework (legal rules) for markets and the state. His fields of research include (European) competition policy, law and economics, evolutionary and innovation economics, as well as European integration. Current research focusses on (1) how innovation can be taken into account in competition policy, (2) the complex interface between competition law and intellectual property law, (3) structured rules for assessing anticompetitive behaviour in competition law, and (4) various issues in regard to centralisation / decentralisation of (regulatory) powers (including regulatory competition) in multi-level legal systems (esp. in the context of European integration).
