Perspectives after Graduation
Flexible and individualised orientation based on fields of professional practice
The uniqueness and flexible design of the Master's programme are reflected by its large number of electives and individualised focus. The goal is to ensure that students are optimally prepared for their future careers.
For example, students can focus on the following areas:

Student Alina Schneider can well imagine working for a large management consulting firm for a few years after graduation or entering the management of a large corporation as part of a trainee programme. Based on her experience from internships and conversations with professionals she is convinced that knowledge of controlling and financial management will be indispensable, in addition to extensive soft skills and practical experience. For this reason, she decides to concentrate in market-oriented corporate management with a focus on financial management, controlling and strategy. She completes this specialisation with a number of selected soft skills courses and a practically oriented project phase in accounting and finance, during which she gains practical insight into the approaches used in consulting and the resolution of interesting problems in practice.

Student Pauline Müller would like to found her own company after completing her Master's degree in Business Administration at the University of Marburg. She has had numerous ideas for years but lacks the specific tools she needs to go into business on her own with confidence. Therefore, she concentrates on market-oriented management and chooses a combination of subjects in the area of entrepreneurship. In order to realise her plans, she will need to develop interdisciplinary skills over the course of her studies. She will need both skills relating to planning and developing a new company (e.g. innovation, risk assessment and financing) and professional skills in all aspects of running a company (e.g. management, marketing, procurement). Finally, it is clear to her that she will need soft skills as the founder of a new company, and this motivates her to think outside the box from an early stage and attend exciting courses in related disciplines, as well as language courses. Alongside her studies, Ms. Müller has already become involved in the student-run management consulting group Phlink e.V. in order to gain relevant experience in solving problems in companies. She is also already taking advantage of the offerings of the Marburg Institute for Innovation Research for Start-Ups (MAFEX) in order to receive specific feedback about her project so that she can make the necessary preparations in a strategic manner.

Pia Moritz became interested in accounting and finance during her Bachelor's studies. She particularly enjoyed her time as an intern with a company and her Bachelor's thesis, which related to the subject of business valuation: in both cases, she had the opportunity to work on problems in the profession and develop proposed solutions independently. After completing her studies, Pia would like to work in the advisory services department of an auditing firm. There, she will be able to make good use of her knowledge in the field of business valuation, which she has supplemented with additional expertise in risk management and valuation.
She has two priorities in designing her studies. First, she would like to significantly expand her expertise in the area of business valuation. Second, she is looking for an option which would allow her to work independently on smaller projects during her studies.
Accordingly, Pia chooses to concentrate in accounting and finance in the project track, taking primarily courses in the area of valuation/risk management. Since she is very interested in acquiring professional skills, she takes advantage of the opportunity to take empirical courses instead of courses in soft skills: after all, valuations cannot be performed without the appropriate data input.Inhalt ausklappen Inhalt einklappen Accounting / Taxes
Horst Hönnig is interested in accounting and taxes and would eventually like to work in a company's accounting department. To prepare for his future career, Horst wants to do independent project work during his studies. Accordingly, Horst chooses to concentrate in accounting and finance in the project track, taking primarily courses in accounting and taxes. Since he is very interested in acquiring professional skills, he takes advantage of the opportunity to take empirical courses instead of courses in soft skills: after all, accountants can't work without the appropriate data input.

Student Mia Bender can well imagine getting her doctorate after completing her Master's degree and perhaps even embarking on an academic career. She finds modules which will prepare her for a doctorate in all three concentrations: finance & accounting, market-oriented corporate management and innovation & information. She also chooses several methods modules that prepare her for an empirically oriented doctoral thesis. In addition, she gains initial experience in academic work in two academically-based seminars, as well as in her Master's thesis.
