Research Focus

The department of general sociology is in charge of formulating theory in the context of the BA and MA degree programs. The comprehensive academic teaching and research program offered by the department includes both the study of classical sociological thought and the multi-pronged extension of the field in newer sociological approaches. Fundamental questions and basic terminology are topics of discussion, as are the current discussions surrounding recent trends in social science and cultural studies research. Overall, the department has a cultural- and knowledge-driven focus on sociological theory creation, which wants to contribute to overcoming the anti-spatial, anti-corporeal, anti-tangible and anti-esthetic direction in mainstream sociology. Further details on efforts in this direction can be found under Teaching, Publication and Research.
