Research focus

The department focuses on sociological explanations and analyses of economics and labor, such as the development and structures of organizations, markets and networks. This includes, for example, concepts for a new economic sociology, such as the embeddedness theory and neo-institutionalism. The focus area, however, does not only examine socio-economical approaches, but also labor-sociological and industrial-sociological research on reorganization processes in companies and labor organizations, labor relations (worker participation) and change in employment forms (flexible workplace, removal of boundaries and precarisation processes). The work area’s research and teaching focus is on current organizational- and gender-sociological topics, such as the development of labor and gender politics in companies and gender-equality problems within organizations. Anyone who wishes to work on theoretical concepts and sociological research results in these field is welcome to join.
