M.A. Applied Methods of Social Research (AMSR)
Welcome to our new Master study program "Applied Methods of Social Research"!
We are currently in the process of developing this study program, which is expected to be available for enrollment in the Winter Semester 2025/26. We will continuously update the website with more information as the program is finalized.
The two-semester Master of Arts in Applied Methods of Social Research (AMSR) equips students with advanced, broad, and research-oriented methodological expertise, enabling them to conduct independent research in the social sciences. Ideal for those who have already gained foundational knowledge in descriptive and inferential statistics during their Bachelor's studies, the program deepens understanding of research design, data collection, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods.
Students will expand their toolkit with a focus on advanced research designs and specialized methods, including data visualization, statistical techniques, and qualitative discourse analysis. The curriculum also covers key research fields such as Inequality and Diversity, Digital Societies, and International Politics and Conflict, where students apply and refine their skills. Designed with a focus on both research and practical application, the program prepares students for independent, theory-driven investigation of socially and politically relevant issues—culminating in the Master’s thesis. This international, English-language program is particularly suited for those intending to pursue a PhD.
