Registration for graduation thesis
When can I register for the graduation thesis?
To register for the bachelor thesis, you must have at least 120 CPs (LP) and can then register for the thesis on the fixed registration dates (GER) for your subject. You must register your thesis in person at the Examination Office with Ms. Daum on the specified days between 9:00 a.m. and 12 p.m. (noon). The same applies to permission to start the thesis, which you also must do in person.
The required credits for registering for the master’s thesis vary depending on the subject and in some cases also on the Degree Program and Examination Regulations. Information on the minimum number of CPs (LP) you must have earned can be found in your current Degree Program and Examination Regulations under §11 or §23.
There are no fixed deadlines for registering for the master’s thesis. Go to Andrey Trofimov’s office in the Examination Office during office hours with your registration documents or send the registration documents by post. It is important that you sign the original documents.
I am abroad at the time of registration for the thesis. Is it still possible to register?
Yes! In this case, you should take care of the signatures on the registration documents (> see “Which documents ...”) before your departure and then send the documents to the applicable staff member in the Examinations Office approx. 1–2 weeks before the planned start of your trip; in person, by post or by e-mail from your student e-mail address.
What documents are required for registration?
The Examination Office requires the registration documents to register for the final module. These include:
1. The application for permission to take the final module.
You must fill out the original form and submit it in person to Ms. Daum or Mr. Trofimov in the Examination Office.
A confirmation from the reviewers that they will provide the first and second opinions is required on the application. Instructors can provide this confirmation with their original signature on the application OR their consent sent by e-mail from their staff account OR a scanned signature as a pdf on the application.* The examiner is appointed automatically when the signature is submitted. The Examination Committee reserves the right to review the eligibility to take the examination (*exception: In Sociology, only the first reviewer signs; the Institute is responsible for assigning second opinions).
2. The form for the topic, which must be completed by the first reviewer, is signed in the original and sent to the Examination Office in a sealed envelope by you or the reviewer.
In principle, the following applies: The topic should be discussed with the first reviewer, the official assignment will be issued to you by the Examination Office after permission is granted to proceed by the examination committee.
(3. If applicable: If you still have certificates of recognition for achievements earned abroad that are not yet recorded in MARVIN, please submit these with your application.)
Please check your transcript of records for completeness before registering.
